2. People practice contribution to discussions to influence others with confidence and conviction.

3. Exploring issues around the human and business benefits of inclusive behaviour, to ensure that people are fairly treated at work.

4. How this can build positive working relationships and lead to performance improvement.

Format: ✓ PowerPoint or pdf and presenter notes (Approx. 1250 words).

A Briefing paper as a handout for delegates covering the main points of the presentation. (Approx. 1200 words)

SLIDE1: AC 1.1 Appraise what it means to be a people professional.

Firstly, define the term ‘professional’ and explain the requirements of a people professional. You could put a referenced definition in your slides and talk around it in your notes, considering application of real examples, wider reading insights and the CIPD profession map in terms of professional and personal values.

In your briefing note, you could provide more explanation of this definition as well as key personal values, such as fairness, honesty, exclusivity, and the concept of professional integrity.

SLIDE2: AC 1.2 Recognise how personal and ethical values can be applied in the context of people practice.

1. Start with an explanation of what is meant by ethical values. Underpin this with wider reading/academic insights.

2. Provide at least three examples of your own personal values e.g., equality, valuing others, or fairness. How do these affect your work and working relationships? How aligned are your personal values to organisational values? What can you do if they are different?

In the briefing note, you could develop key points relating to the meaning of ethical values, in relation to the three personal values you have listed.

SLIDE3&4: AC 1.3: Contribute confidently to discussions in a clear, engaging and informed way to influence others & AC 1.5: Recognise when and how you would raise matters which conflict with ethical values or legislation.

Using work or personal examples, analyse how you could/have:

1. Contributed to discussions to ensure people practices are applied. 2. How you can effectively communicate to engage and influence others.

3. How you might raise issues with situations such as organisational policies or theapproach to leadership that conflict with legislation or ethical values.

You could split these up into different slides or combine them.

Consider times where you have had to be courageous in speaking up. Perhaps you have had responsibility of ensuring people practices are applied within the organisation or improving practices in HR, L&D and OD. If you haven’t had the experience, talk about what you could do.

The analysis element could be discussing strengths and weaknesses of your discussion and communication techniques. How did you engage and influence others? What techniques did you/could you use? E.g., active listening, communication skills, influencing and persuading approaches etc.

Examples:

• Changing, writing, or communicating policies

• Approaching problems that conflicted with legislation or ethical values

• Whistleblowing

• CIPD professional map values

• Code of ethics/conduct.

In your briefing note, reflect on this conversation and present the key techniques and impacts.

SLIDE5: AC 2.1: Argue the human and business benefits of people feeling included, valued, and fairly treated at work.

Start with introducing relevant theory, explain why you chose it, then apply it to a discussion on the business and human benefits of people at work, feeling included, valued, and being treated fairly, e.g., Maslow, McClelland, Pink or Rock. You need some analysis in this discussion so, for example, if you have chosen Daniel Pink’s theory, what does Pink say about motivation and reward? How does this support your argument? What are the business and human benefits to ensuring people feel included, valued, and treated fairly at work? You could consider job satisfaction or enhanced worker well-being, reduced sickness or increased retention. The CIPD Insight reports could help you here.

You will need to include referenced evidence of wider reading and research to provide a robust argument. In your briefing note, reflect on key theories and benefits

SLIDE6&7: AC 2.2: Design an impactful solution based on feedback and engagement with others and AC 2.3: Evaluate the impact of the solution to influence and engage people within an organisation.

You need to:

Identify a people practice initiative that has been put in place in response to some form of internal or external feedback, set out the purpose of this initiative and explain how you would evaluate the impact of this initiative paying particular attention to levels of engagement within the organisation.

Start with a brief overview of a people practice initiative from your own organisation: what was the purpose of the initiative and why it was put in place? You should discuss the internal or external feedback that prompted this initiative. You could use your PESTLE from unit 1 as external influence.

Examples: self-service holidays, leadership training, new competitors in the marketplace, requiring a review of organisational design practices.

Next, discuss who was impacted by the solution? How was the feedback received, and how were stakeholders engaged with?

Finally, explain how you would evaluate the impact of this initiative on levels of engagement within the organisation? For example, have the objectives been met? Did the employees accept the change? Was the change managed effectively? How does the initiative recognise different needs and agendas?

In the briefing note, focus on the key elements and impacts of the people practice initiatives, in relation to engagement levels.
