Family Stress Theory is a developmental theory that uses the concepts of family science (family nursing). This theory seeks to explain the reasons for some family systems to adapt, grow, and thrive under stressing situations whereas other family deteriorate and disintegrate when faced with similar circumstances (Beckett, 2000; McCubbin, 1993, p. 46). Studies presented before the existence of family stress theory advanced that acquiring health information from patients during stressful period caused the subsequent medical problems. These medical problems were; increased the knowledge of patients about an epidemiological condition or health concerns, led to development of new questions in the course of interaction between the patient and the medical providers, and raised the level of understanding of medical information from healthcare providers (and Texas Woman’s University, 2008). The three conditions are currently believed to trigger stress within the family system.
