How are Machiavelli’s political theories different than Epicureanism, Stoicism, St. Augustine, and Thomas Aquinas about the practice of politics. Discuss the role of love (e.g. shaping and directing the passions), god (e.g. respect/fear/justice) and war (e.g. security, sacrifice, citizenship, ambition) in each of their thought with respect to the goal(s) of political society, the conditions that support those goals and the actions necessary to achieve them. Please highlight points of agreement and difference with Machiavelli throughout it. I have to write the paper about it. I just need 3rd person view on this to do well on the paper.
It is 2000 words. 🙂
Here is the whole prompt. 🙂
Put Machiavelli in dialogue with Epicureanism, Stoicism, St. Highlight points of agreement and difference with Machiavelli throughout your discussion.
You can present your discussion in dialogue form, in the scholastic inquisitorial form evident in Aquinas’s writing, or as a formal essay.
