Mini Essay

This is an analytical essay, where you are demonstrating reading comprehension, contextualization, and critical thinking skills through writing.    

I would like you to analyze the text while exploring your own ideas about your selected issue, incorporating observations and experiences as well as support from the text.  Feel free to use other sources, but make sure to write a thesis statement that is entirely your own position.  Only use quotes or paraphrases from the text to directly support YOUR argument.  

This essay should be two pages long (give or take a few lines).   

Please double-space, type, and use 12 pt font on all drafts.  Also put name and class info on top left, title centered, and last name and pg number top right (every page).   

TOPIC:

Benentta Berti in the TED Talk, “The Surprising Ways Group like ISIS Stay in Power,” argues that “We cannot understand these groups (like ISIS), let alone defeat them, if we don’t have the full picture.”  Using the TED Talk and the two other ISIS articles in Resources to create a full picture of how ISIS has risen to power and how that understanding would help us against this threat.
