alignment change Europe between 1880 and 1914? Did these groups have anything
in common?
How did late nineteenth century women claim greater rights and wider
participation in the public sphere? When women failed to get the vote in
Britain in 1900, what happened to the women?s suffrage movement?
Section Two:
What drives the imperialist impulse? Why would Europeans leave their homes
and families, risk illness and misadventure, and encounter peoples and cultures
completely foreign to their own?
What were the immediate consequences of European imperialism? Did
imperialism in any way shape the contours of the twentieth century?
As the tensions between the major powers of Europe brought war closer, what
sort of conflict did Europeans generally expect to occur? What was the
difference between the idealized view of what the war would be and the reality
of what actually occurred?
