Week 1 Discussion:

Week 1 Discussion: The Transition to Being a Supervisor

Chapter 1, Supervision Fundamentals, discusses the transition from a line employee to a supervisory role (please read before you post!). While this may seem simple (and desirable) to many workers, the realities of this change can be difficult and sometimes dramatic. Describe a time when you or one of your peers made the move to a supervisory position and what you observed and experienced during the transition (if you have not experienced this, you can comment on the experience and observations of someone you know). Was it difficult to adjust to the new role? Was it worth it? How did you and/or others react to the change? What might have made the change smoother for all parties?

Time Management: Please describe how you have planned your use of time over the past several weeks.

Home Health Services

Home Health Services

Doris is a 79-year-old woman who has recently lost her spouse and has begun receiving home health services at her home. The home health nurse has noticed Doris spending large amounts of time at home alone. The nurse would love to see Doris become more active in her community and possibly be less sedentary.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research on home health services. Based on your research and understanding, respond to the following:

Provide recommendations to help Doris become a more involved community member.
Analyze and identify at least four barriers that may exist in Doris being involved in more community activities. Provide solutions to each of these barriers.
Provide at least two examples of community programs that Doris could benefit from being involved in.
Provide recommendations on how the home health nurse could encourage Doris to be involved in these activities.
Describe the types of health promotion programs that are available for aging adults. Explain how these programs will benefit aging adults, physically, psychologically, and financially.
Analyze and explain the common barriers that can occur when trying to get a senior to access a health promotion project.
Analyze and identify at least one health promotion project in your area and describe its history and role in the community.
Provide recommendations for funding, regulation, and demographics of this project.

Performance Management and Strategic Planning

Assignment 3: Performance Management and Strategic Planning
You have studied strategic and general considerations of performance management in your course readings. Performance management is an important contributor to tracking and meeting organizational goals and should be a part of the organization’s strategic plan. Ideally, there is a clear link among an organization’s mission, vision, goals, strategies, and what is actually done at the departmental or employee level. For this assignment, you will apply these concepts to an organization and write a report in approximately 3–5 pages on the basis of your findings.

Directions:

First, select an organization (i.e., a current or past employer) and research it using the Argosy University online library resources, the Internet, or both. You may also include information gathered from interviews with experts from the organization:

Explain the relationship between the organization’s mission and vision statements and goals and strategies at the corporate level. Include how the mission, vision, goals, and strategies relate to the division or department levels.
Determine whether the organization’s strategic plan includes a performance management component (including employee evaluations, feedback cycles, or other reference to tracking or documenting individual or group performance), providing clear examples to support your conclusion.
Explain how and why a strategic plan should determine various choices regarding performance management system design.
Offer at least two suggestions for improvement or development of the performance management component of the organization’s strategic plan.
Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document and be approximately 3–5 pages in length. Utilize at least two scholarly sources in your research. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Discussion: Diversity In The Workplace

Discussion: Diversity in the Workplace

Creating and managing a diverse workforce is a process, not a destination. —R. Roosevelt Thomas, Jr. What concepts come to mind when you think of diversity? What kinds of diversity exist in your workplace? How does diversity impact communication, working relationships, productivity, and patient care? In the workplace, focusing on differences can create divisiveness. Nurse managers should approach diversity as a way to highlight, communicate, and build on the commonalities of their workforce. Modeling this behavior can encourage appreciation for diversity and create a more positive workplace environment. When managing a diverse workforce, nurse managers should never make assumptions about an individual’s motivations, goals, or work ethic based upon personal traits such as age, gender, race, or culture. Nurse managers should strive to facilitate an inclusive environment for all. To prepare •Review the article, “Diversity within Nursing: Effects on Nurse-Nurse Interaction, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover.” Examine Figure 1 on p. 218. Determine how these and other diversity issues might impact the interaction of nurses in the workplace. •Consider situations in your current organization or one with which you are familiar in which obvious diversity exists. How do these types of diversity issues affect the daily work environment? •Examine this week’s Learning Resources to identify strategies for finding commonalities among workers. How might these strategies also help to increase appreciation of diversity within the workplace? By Day 3 Post an explanation of how diversity-related issues impact your current organization or one with which you are familiar. If you do not believe there are any issues related to diversity, explain how this workplace instills a culture of acceptance and positivity. Conclude your posting by describing at least two commonalties everyone in this workplace shares and at least one new strategy you could implement to increase appreciation of both differences and similarities.
