Guidelines for Summary Writing
- Write in 3rd person.
- Include a topic sentence which includes the name of the essay, the name of the author, and the main idea of the essay.
- Limit the summary to one or two paragraphs.
- Place the title of the essay in quotation marks.
- Do not include an opinion of the essay. Do not react to the essay. The reaction of the essay belongs on the discussion board and not in the summary.
