Why is it important to review these kinds of case studies when we are contemplating solving workplace problems?

Why is it important to review these kinds of case studies when we are contemplating solving workplace problems? Can you think of an instance where reflecting on a past problem and solution has enabled you to develop solutions to a current problem?

Here is a example for this question:

It is very useful and important to read workplace case studies because it helps people avoid getting themselves into those problems, but also if you ever did it helps you understand what your rights are. I believe in learning from past mistakes or else “history repeats itself”. Studying these cases also allows us to see how problems are solved and the outcome. It teaches us that if we either are or plan to be in a management position you could learn how to escalate and resolve these conflicts.

At work I had an issue with a coworker who assigns work without a due date but basically expects you to do it the same day. I was busy one week and she had gave me an excel file to work on and it took me about a week to hand it back. I had my monthly one on one meeting with my manager that following Monday and she approached me about it and mentioned that my coworker had mentioned it to her that I had held onto that file for too long. From then on whenever that person gives me work to do I make sure to ask her exactly when she needs it by. I also make it a point to email her and cc my boss whenever I need an extension or when I have completed the task to avoid any future miscommunication.

You can write 250-350 words.

Respond to the comments of 3 students below. Each Response must be exactly 100 words. NO WORK CITED PAGES

Each response is to be specific to the original post of the individual to whom you are responding (in other words, you cannot post the same thing for each response). Each response should be a thoughtful reflection of the original post. In other words, simply saying “good idea” is not sufficient. Your replies should incorporate terminology and details from the readings and presentation.

Tips: Be sure to…

  • be supportive and affirming in your responses
  • individualize each response
  • make sure your replies are consistent with the course material (readings and presentation)

TOPIC: Describe 2 activities you could incorporate into the curriculum based on the topics in chapter 6 (curriculum areas – physical activity, health and general safety, social-emotional health). Explain factors you are taking into consideration and why or how this activity is beneficial to children. You may only do one activity per topic (as in, they cannot both pertain to physical activity). Your additional considerations (sentence 2 of the topic) should be specific to each activity/curriculum area.

Student #1 Comment: Response must be exactly 100 words. NO WORK CITED PAGES!!!

Physical movement and activity are essential for healthy growth and development and can provide many opportunities for both fine and gross motor skill development. The goal for physical activity is to promote healthy growth, positive self esteem, increased attentionand concertration and creates lifetime possitive habits and children enjoy their time outdoors.

Activity 1: Red light Green light/ Ages: 4-5 years old

Red light, green light is a game where children can run and use their listen skills. Children will be in a line or in one area when teachers says “Green Light ” they will run or began moving forward. Red light means “stop” and if you dont stop you have to start all over. The purpose if this game is for children to practice listing skills (directions) and have some type of physical body movement (exercises ) at the same time.

Activity 2/Age:4-5 years old

Another activity our book provides is “Frog Jump” The children assume a squatting position with hands on the floor. They move forward with springy jump, extending their kegs and landing first in hands and then on feet. The purpose of this activity is for children to use movement skills, and enhances their coordination, and improve balance. At the same time we can modify this activity by having children name one letter of there name as they jump.

Student #2 Comment: Response must be exactly 100 words. NO WORK CITED PAGES!!!

Greetings,

The subjects I will incorporate in my curriculum will be physical activity and social-emotional health. These two subjects are essential for children to develop their maximum potential. If they are not included in the curriculum, you will see more behavior issues in the classroom. Physical activity promotes the student’s locomotor, axial, manipulate, and fine motor skills development. Physical activity helps the child with coordination, concentration, and will benefit the child’s self-esteem. For example, I promote a lot of movement in the classroom, and we do dancing and yoga. We also play indoor games as four corners, around the world, Simon says, etc. The students have physical education, do exercises and even play games, as the tag, find the leader and potato head. During their workouts, we promote balance and coordination: they play with balls, hula hoops , and jump rope.

Regarding social-emotional development, every week, we focus on a topic, and we create activities where they applied the concepts. For example, if they learn about working as a team, I will create activities where they need the support of their friends. In this way, children learn to communicate and express their needs and find relief from their classmates. For example, in my classroom, we have a peace corner, where children solve their problems or disagreements. First, I introduce the lesson of the peace rose, where they express their feeling and their concerns.

Then, they can come out with a solution to the problem. If children learn to express their emotions and are accepted, it will benefit their self-esteem. The same will happen with daily physical activities because they wouldn’t be overweight and feel better about themselves too. Both subjects are connected and are essential to integrate into our curriculum to stimulate their brain and their mental health.

Student #3 Comment: Response must be exactly 100 words. NO WORK CITED PAGES!!!

For social emotional health I would choose an all about me self-portrait. They can draw themselves and one thing they really enjoy doing. The teacher can dictate what the children are saying about the portrait. The goal of this activity is to teach the child to acknowledge and express who they are in their own way. They will be encouraged to talk about their picture. The self portraits will also be hung on the wall to encourage conversation and self-identity.

For the topic of health, I would discuss, show, and model hand washing. To gather the children’s attention, I would sing a song about washing your hands. If available I would read a book giving visuals to show the proper way to wash your hands. There would also be an opportunity for the children to go individually to show what they’ve learned about hand washing. To add to the learning experience we can make green slime with glitter and call it germ slime. After playing with the slime I would encourage hand washing.

Memo Assignment – Quality work needed

Summary:

Your memo should illustrate a strong understanding of both adjustment letters and downward persuasive memos.

Memo Assignment:

Explaining Letter Revision

Purpose

To reflect critically on the rhetorical choices involved in the communication process

Topic

This assignment asks you to imagine that you are the manager of Manhattan Galleries. Your new assistant has just written a letter responding to a customer’s claim that her painting was delivered with sags in the canvas. You instructed your assistant to write a positive adjustment letter that would offer to reimburse the customer for the cost of having the canvas re-stretched at her local framing shop. This client could be an important source of future business and referrals for you. You are dismayed when you read your assistant’s letter, which needs substantial revising before you would consider sending it to a customer.

First, annotate your assistant’s letter to be aware of the many weaknesses of the document. Then, write a memo to your assistant. In the memo, explain to your assistant why and how she needs to revise her letter. Your goal in doing so is to help her learn how to write more effective customer letters. You will not be able to review all of her future letters. Therefore, you want to be certain she understands how to communicate with customers. When writing the memo, keep in mind that your assistant is a valuable employee. You want to provide feedback and instruction without damaging morale.

Guidelines

Do not exceed 1.75 pages, single spaced for your memo. Consider using graphic highlighting (e.g., bullets, numbering, boldface type) to make your points more readable.

Address the memo to your assistant, Sally Cantwright.

Dear Ms. Jensen:

Your letter has been referred to me for reply. You claim that the painting recently sent by Manhattan Galleries arrived with sags in the canvas and that you are unwilling to hang it in your company’s executive offices.

I have examined your complaint carefully, and, frankly, I find it difficult to believe because we are so careful about shipping, but if what you say is true, I suspect that the shipper may be the source of your problem. We give explicit instructions to our shippers that large paintings must be shipped standing up, not lying down. We also wrap every painting in two layers of convoluted foam and one layer of Perf-Pack foam, which we think should be sufficient to withstand any bumps and scrapes that negligent shipping may cause. We will certainly look into this.

Although it is against our policy, we will in this instance allow you to take this painting to a local framing shop for re-stretching. We are proud that we can offer fine works of original art at incredibly low prices, and you can be sure that we do not send out sagging canvasses.

Sincerely,

Sally Cantwright

Assistant Manager
